Reality-Based in France Jim Wagner
Once again the University of Paris X Nanterre, Security Department, hosted the Level 1 Reality-Based Personal Protection courses and several more instructors from France and Belgium have been certified to teach the system.
Christophe Besse, Reality-Based Director of France, helped to make this event a huge success. Not only were there University security personnel present in the course, but several instructors from various martial arts schools as well and owner of Olympe Securite, Teddy Marques; a 150 agent security company in the heart of Paris. Marques has been following my articles, books and DVDs for ten years and let me know that he was happy to finally get Reality-Based certification from me.

Those who received their instructor certificates were: Antoine Martiano, David Marini, Jean-Marc Marciano-Leroux, Jean-Marie Mauny, Julien Nodier, Marcel Karee, Olivier Pen, Patrice Valun, Pierre Zeghmar, Rui Monteiro, and Teddy Marques. I also had a very fierce female get instructor certified with her male counterparts but her name is being withheld due to her security sensitive job (in the group photo her face is pixilated). Fabrice Abbou attended the five days to get recertified. Jean-Luc Guinot was also recertified.
Conducting the courses at France’s largest university is wonderful. The main room we get to train in is enormous, and when it comes to ground training we have a professional judo room with wall to wall mats.

I try to visit a museum every time I am in a large city to continue my research on conflict and warfare. I was fortunate on this trip and had the opportunity to visit the The Air and Space Museum in Paris (Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace). This huge museum had everything from the first airplanes, to World I and II aircraft, to modern jet fighters and commercial aircraft. They also had France’s first nuclear missile the SSBS S3, of course minus the warhead. I was able to take a lot of photos, especially of commercial aircraft, that I will be able to use in the powerpoint presentations that I am working on for each of the Reality-Based Personal Protection levels. The aircraft photos will come in handy for the Terrorism Survival course.
I will be returning to Paris, France at the University to teach Level 1 from August 18 to 22 and Level 2 from August 25 to 29. If you wish to sign up for any of the courses offered in these two levels please contact Director Christophe Besse at www.jimwagnerrealitybased.fr
